Hosting | bornlikethat

One day, when I?m older, I?d like to have a house, or at least a large apartment. And in that apartment I?d like to have parties. My uncle and his wife have wine and cheeses, and I think there?s something so fun about hosting. To be completely honest, I think I?d prefer having friends who host these kinds of parties as well, so I don?t feel like I?m doing?all the work, but to be honest, knowing my personality, I will often take on the ?host? role.

I?d love to have ?specialty? parties. I saw one party online that was a ?favorite things? party ? inspired by The Sound of Music ? everyone brings 3 of their favorite items to the party, wrapped as gifts. You set a price limit in advance so that everyone is in approximately the same price range. Everyone leaves with a present (there?s a kind of gift exchange) and there?s also a chance for the person to explain their favorite products (and why it?s their favorite)

I also talked to someone who had hosted an ?unbirthday? party: you had to dress up like someone that you never wanted to be. You had to bring a gift that you?d never want to receive and foods like blue cake (green eggs and ham style) were served. It sounds SO COOL! Even things like a ?fancy? mock-tail party, or a tea party, or a chocolate party where everyone brings their favorite chocolate-inspired food/drink/main course, etc?

I can?t necessarily afford it right now, but I would definitely like to be at a place in my life, soon, where I can host these things. The key to a good party is organization, space, and having loosely structured ideas for activities. I don?t think it?s always enough to come and eat and chat the whole evening. If you want people to come away, having had a memorable time, you need to put a little bit of creative effort into it.

The plan: eventually get an apartment with an open-plan kitchen and dining room/living room and let the hosting begin!
