Local couple in running for Mexico wedding

Karen Monk and Shane Pearce are only nine people away from a wedding in Mexico.

The couple, foster parents to an ever evolving crew of kids, were happy when one of their friends entered them in the contest.

"I saw it on the Gobal News, and I thought 'I wish someone would enter my name in it. That same morning my friend called me and asked me 'can I enter you into this Global News wedding contest?'" said Monk.

Or at least Monk was, Pearce had no idea about the contest until he got called at work telling him they were in the top ten.

"I didn't see anything about it till Global phoned. The women asked me if I was sitting down. I said 'no, should I be? She said 'probably,'" said Pearce.
