Star-Spangled Christmas parade to be held Saturday

CONYERS, Ga. -- This year's Conyers Hometown Holiday Parade has a patriotic Star-Spangled Christmas theme.

Floats decked in red, white and blue will travel from Rockdale County High School to the Rockdale County Courthouse at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1. The parade will celebrate U.S. armed forces and love for the country.

Parade participants and attendees will be encouraged to do their part to help local families in need.

"A new tradition we're starting this year is encouraging parade participants and spectators and tree lighting attendees to bring canned goods and participate in a food drive to benefit the Rockdale Community Food Bank," Conyers Main Street manager Monica Coffin said in a statement. "It's important to be able to give back to those that need help and food on the table, especially at this time of the year, and this is our way to celebrate the community's extraordinary spirit of giving."

Trucks will be parked at the courthouse and high school to accept donations. Another container will also be placed at the county ice skating rink.
