Agency: Son of Iran opposition leader sentenced

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? An Iranian news agency reports the son of a leading Iranian opposition figure has been sentenced to a suspended six-month jail term for interviews with foreign media.

The semiofficial Fars agency says Mohammad Hossein Karroubi's jail term would be enforced if he commits the same crime again. He's the son of Mahdi Karroubi, who has been under house arrest since riots erupted after a hotly disputed presidential election in 2009.

The Wednesday report says the younger Karroubi has 20 days to appeal the sentence by the Revolutionary Court that deals with security crimes. He was convicted of "disturbing public opinion" in interviews with foreign media.

In 2009, Mahdi Karroubi and another opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi, lost to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and claimed the vote was rigged in his favor.
