(Tunica, MS) The Tunica Humane Society stops animals from being put down because it is a no kill shelter.
Now, the group behind the shelter is worried it could be forced to shut down.
From the smallest whimper to the biggest bark, The Tunica Humane Society has saved hundreds of animals over the last four years.
?We believe with all our hearts that these animals are God?s creation. They deserve to be respected,? expressed Director Sandy Williams.
The mission is in danger because Williams says the county plans on cutting its funding by $25,000, about half of what it gets now!
?I want to know what their plan for these animals is if we have to close the shelter,? said Williams,
Shelter workers raise an additional $70,000 dollars each year to help keep up the building, buy food and provide veterinarian care.
The workers are all volunteers.
?We don?t have cuts we can make, we operate on a prayer.,? said Williams.
News Channel 3 reached out to the County about the proposed cuts, but no one was available.
This is the only no kill shelter in North Mississippi.
Shelter volunteers say even with these devastating cuts, they will do whatever they can to make sure the animals live.
?Good will come of this, God has his hand on us,? said Williams.?
